Current and Upcoming Exhibits, Activities and Accomplishments Fulbright Award: I'm happy to announce that I have recently been awarded a Fulbright fellowship to develop my photographic project and to teach in El Chocó and Bogotá, Colombia. I'm one of six people given Colombia Fulbright awards for the coming academic year. I expect to be in Colombia from late July to early January, 2008. Cleveland, Ohio area, March and April, 2007: 1. Throughout March and April, I’m going to have an exhibit of black-and-white photographs of birds (I call them “bird portraits”) at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, one of my favorite places around here. The Center is at 2600 South Park Blvd in Shaker Hts. (www.shakerlakes.org) This exhibit is a departure for me from my normal exhibits of social documentary themes—I mostly take bird pictures as a diversion when I’m vacationing—but I’m very happy to be able to exhibit at NCSL. Sales will benefit the Center as well, which I’m happy about, as this center is a great resource. On April 5, there will be a reception at the Center from 5:30 to 7:30. I hope to see you there. 2. Also in March and April, I will be exhibiting pictures of Ohio workers, in a show called “Working Ohio/Working Youngstown,” at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry & Labor, at 151 West Wood Street in Youngstown, in Mahoning County (Wood Street is off of Market Street two blocks north of downtown). I’ll be showing some of the portraits of people at work in a variety of workplaces in Northeast Ohio, as well as some panels of my photographs combined with texts from interviews of Youngstown-area workers done by YSU students working with Alyssa Lenhoff, the Director of YSU’s journalism program. This exhibit, and the work in Youngstown are sponsored by the Center for Working Class Studies at Youngstown State University, a truly wonderful center that you all should know about, if you don’t already. On March 22, Alyssa and I will be speaking at the museum at 7 PM. 3. On Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22, we’re going to have a photography open house at our house (also my studio…) from Noon to 6 PM each day. I’ll have a lot of work out, drawn from a number of my projects over the last 25 years or more—photographs, books, cards and posters. We’ll have light refreshments, and this will be an opportunity to look at a lot of work, talk about photography, as well as life, the universe and everything, and to see what’s coming up in the garden. Part of this open house will be a sale I’m calling “Sixty for Sixty.” I’m putting out 60 matted prints for $60 each. This is a discount of 65-75% or more, depending on where you might buy the prints otherwise. This should be a lot of fun. As Yogi Berra said, “Don’t miss it if you can!” |
