But of all the fauna in Forest Hill Park, the greatest variety is offered by the birds. Spring and Fall are the best time to see birds, as numerous
species that migrate through our area stop to rest and feed in the park, but there are some birds to be found in every season, even in the coldest winter days. Over the last few years, we have compiled a list of 75 species of birds we’ve seen here, though we know there are many more that pass through.(If you'd like to see our list, click here) What do we need to do to preserve and strengthen the natural features of this park? There are some things that we can do individually, and some things that need a broader involvement. First, individually, we can all get out and take a good luck at the natural features of this park. Don’t stay in the ball fields and on the paved roads; there are trails and lesser-used paths that are worth looking at. But do stay on the paths wherever you go. While you’re admiring the flowers and ferns and other plants, remember that they need to be To see the birds, and perhaps other animals, try to make as little noise as possible on the paths and trails. Listen for songs and calls, and watch for movement among the branches and on the ground. When you hear or see something, stay still and quiet and try to get a good look—the variety may surprise you, and the beauty can overwhelm you. If you have a friend who knows about the flowers or the birds, ask to go on a walk with them; you may be surprised at how much people want to share their love for and knowledge of nature. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
